So, let’s talk about the Towers in Mansfield – yeah, the sports bar with function rooms. When the couple booked me, they warned me there’s not much outdoor pretty stuff for photos. Plus, they had an outfit change: English traditional for the day, Nigerian for the evening, and they wanted to nail those heritage shots.

Evening rolled around, light was getting thin – time to get creative. I pulled out three lights and… wait for it… tin foil. I know, sounds mad, but hear me out.I tried explaining the whole thing to them and she just looked so confused. I could tell she was thinking “tin foil? For our wedding photos?” So I just smiled and said, “Honestly, just trust me and trust the process, you won’t regret it.”

behind the scene

The mess behind the scenes that made the magic

First, one main key light to highlight them and darken the backdrop – no distractions, just them. Then, the other two lights? I used them to hit some crunched-up tin foil, which created this gorgeous bokeh effect. I even tore a hole in the foil and shot through it, suddenly we had this soft, colorful frame around the shot.

The best bit? I matched the color cast from the lights to the hues in their Nigerian outfits. It made the whole thing feel so intentional, like the venue was made for those photos, not a sports bar.

They teared up when they saw it. Proof that you don’t need a fancy venue to get one-of-a-kind shots,  just a bit of tin foil, a whole lot of crazy chaotic imagination, and true knowledge of light and lighting techniques, all rounded up to create this stunning, colourful, vibrant image.
